This paper inquires into an aspect of Claudio Acquaviva’s policy related to the Ratio Studiorum, which appears to be one of the very few failures of his long-lasting Generalate, that is, his effort for constraining the freedom of opinions of the Jesuit teachers. We sketch a primary-source-based survey on Acquaviva’s endeavor, aiming to show how this failure developed, starting from the dropping out of the Delectus opinionum (a choice of opinions) from the project of the Ratio studiorum. Acquaviva tried to bound Jesuit philosophers and theologians to a clearly orthodox form of Thomism, but the professors of the order, bound as they were to the Ignatian attitude toward “adaptation”, showed such a strong resistance as Acquaviva had ever met before.

En este artículo se examina un aspecto de Claudio Acquaviva sobre la política Ratio Studiorum, que al parecer es uno de los muy pocos fallos en su larga carrera como General de la Compañía de Jesús, o de sus denotados intentos de limitar la libertad de opinion en los maestros jesuitas. Una historiografía basada en fuentes primarias, muestra los esfuerzos y frustraciones sufridas por Acquaviva en esta materia, ejemplificados dramáticamente por la cancelación de Delectus opinionum la edición oficial de la Ratio Studiorum.
