Educating towards an “entrepreneurial spirit”. The lesson of Marcus Aurelius

The promotion of an “entrepreneurial spirit” is now one of the political objectives that characterize the various action plans of the EU and its Member States. The reasons and tools to support its development are many and different. But how do understand this “spirit”? which way to address it? and then, how to consider entrepreneurship? How to support it? trough what form of education? And above all: how to point through it to the formation of man and citizen? These are questions that despite the various interests are still looking for answers and that are investigated in the present contribution through the lesson of an ancient “entrepreneur”, Marcus Aurelius, who was able to do the good of his empire by duty and profession.

La promoción de un “espíritu emprendedor” es ahora uno de los objetivos políticos que caracterizan los diversos planes de acción de la UE y sus Estados miembros. Las razones y las herramientas para apoyar su desarrollo son muchas y diferentes. Pero, ¿cómo 

entender este “espíritu”? ¿De qué manera abordarlo? Y luego: ¿cómo considerar el emprendimiento? ¿Cómo apoyarlo? ¿A través de qué forma de educación? Y sobre todo: ¿cómo señalarlo a través de la formación del hombre y el ciudadano? Estas son preguntas que, a pesar de los diversos intereses, aún están buscando respuestas y que en la presente contribución se investigan a través de la lección de un antiguo “empresario”, Marco Aurelio, que pudo hacer el bien de su imperio por deber y profesión.
