Abstract

The Schools of an Emilian Renaissance Community between Reli-gion and Politics. The Case of Novellara

This paper inquires the links and the mutual influence between the political and educational structures of the rural community of No-vellara during the XVI century. The analysis will focus in particular on the evolution of these structures from the late medieval humanistic school system to the new post-Tridentine catholic school system. This dynamic will also be taken into account under the perspective of the political strategies undertaken by the ruling family of this community, a cadet branch of the Gonzaga family, in order to allow the survival of their little state. The only way to achieve this purpose was to put the fathers of the Society of Jesus in charge of the local schools.

Las escuelas de una comunidad renacentista emiliana entre Religión y Política. El caso de Novellara.

Este artículo investiga los vínculos y la influencia reciproca entre las estructuras políticas y educativas de la comunidad rural de No-vellara durante el siglo XVI. El análisis se centrará en particular en la evolución de estas estructuras desde el sistema educativo humanista tardío medieval hasta el nuevo sistema escolar post-tridentino católico. Esta dinámica también se tendrá en cuenta en la perspec-tiva de las estrategias políticas emprendidas por la familia gober-nante de esta comunidad, rama cadet de la familia Gonzaga, para permitir la supervivencia de su pequeño estado. La única manera de lograr este propósito era poner a los padres de la Compañía Jesuíta a cargo de las escuelas locales.
